Short-Term Business Loans

A short-term business loan is fixed borrowing intended for a defined near-term commercial requirement, repaid over an agreed period.

NBS Finance is a broker and introducer, not a lender. An enquiry does not guarantee an offer.

Quick answer

When this may be worth discussing

01

A time-limited working-capital gap

02

Stock, supplier or mobilisation costs tied to a clear plan

03

A cost that can be repaid from forecast trading cash flow

Provider assessment

Information that helps produce a useful answer

Providers set their own rates, charges, fees, security and terms. Clear evidence helps distinguish a viable route from an unsuitable application.

  • Recent bank statements and management information
  • The purpose, amount and required timing
  • A realistic repayment and downside plan
Important: Compare the total repayable amount, repayment frequency, early-settlement position and any security—not only the headline rate.

Process

From requirement to decision

1. Define

Tell us the amount, purpose and timing.

2. Evidence

Share the documents relevant to this route.

3. Discuss

NBS clarifies the requirement and possible route.

4. Assess

A suitable provider completes its own checks and sets any offer terms.

Identify the cash event that repays the loan

Set out the bill or investment being funded, the expected customer receipt or other repayment source, and the evidence for its timing. Check whether the cash will still be available after wages, suppliers, tax and existing finance payments.

Test a delayed receipt or lower margin. Daily or weekly repayments can put pressure on cash before the expected income arrives. If repayment depends on getting another loan, or the business needs the same borrowing every month, review the underlying cash position and alternatives before taking more debt.

A larger temporary need may still require detailed underwriting. See large business loans for substantial requests and working-capital finance to compare recurring cash-flow structures.

Short-term borrowing questions

What makes a short-term loan suitable?

A defined commercial use and a credible repayment source within the proposed term. The business must be able to meet the actual payment schedule as well as the final balance. A short deadline does not establish affordability or approval.

Should I borrow while waiting for a contract payment?

Explain whether work is complete, payment is approved and any dispute, retention or set-off remains. A signed contract does not guarantee receipt on time. Invoice or contractual-debt routes may be relevant, but provider eligibility still applies.

How should I compare the price?

Compare the interest basis, every fee, payment frequency, total repayable and early-settlement terms for the actual expected borrowing period. A monthly rate alone does not show the full cost.

Can the borrowing simply be renewed?

Do not rely on renewal or refinancing to repay it. A provider can reassess the business or withdraw appetite. A continuing cash deficit needs a review of its cause and a sustainable repayment plan.

Is a rapid payout guaranteed?

No. Documents, underwriting and any security or legal conditions affect timing. Do not commit to a supplier or transaction deadline on the assumption that funds will arrive by a particular date.
