Truck Finance

Truck finance can support tractor units, rigids and other commercial goods vehicles where the asset and operating plan meet provider criteria.

NBS Finance is a broker and introducer, not a lender. An enquiry does not guarantee an offer.

From HGV quotation to an affordable purchase

  1. Identify the tractor unit, rigid or trailer, seller, VAT basis, age, mileage/hours, condition and intended work. Check ownership, outstanding finance and inspection evidence before committing.
  2. Separate replacement from expansion. Show contract income, utilisation, insurance, tyres, maintenance, downtime cover and existing fleet repayments.
  3. Compare contribution, VAT timing, instalments, any final payment and the end position under the proposed structure.
  4. Proceed only after the provider has completed checks and confirmed conditions, payment and delivery arrangements. A quotation or application is not payout.
Hypothetical purchase components; not a quote, tax advice or rates
Component Illustration or question
Vehicle price Assume £60,000 excluding any applicable VAT. The seller must confirm the actual VAT treatment.
Contribution and balance An assumed £12,000 contribution leaves £48,000 of price to fund, before VAT and charges. Neither that contribution nor full VAT funding is promised.
Upfront cash Add any VAT payable upfront, fees, insurance and initial maintenance to the contribution. Check when each sum is due.
Payment structure Compare equal instalments with a structure containing a final payment. A lower monthly payment can leave a larger end obligation.
Total commitment Add contribution, all instalments, final payment and mandatory charges on a consistent VAT basis. Do not compare the monthly figure alone.

Under hire purchase, the provider retains legal ownership until the contractual conditions are met. A finance lease provides use with different end arrangements. Age, condition and remaining working life can affect the proposed term. Use the HGV preparation guide.

Prepare the enquiry

Information that helps produce a useful answer

Providers set their own rates, charges, fees, security and terms. Clear evidence helps distinguish a viable route from an unsuitable application.

  • Vehicle age, mileage, condition and value
  • Operator experience, contracts and utilisation
  • O-licence position where applicable
Important: Finance approval is separate from operator-licence approval. The operator is responsible for meeting licensing and roadworthiness rules.

HGV purchase questions

Can an older or high-mileage truck be considered?

Provider appetite varies. Give age, mileage, service/inspection records, valuation context and expected useful life. Plan maintenance and a realistic term.

Can we buy privately?

A provider may require additional seller, title, identity, valuation and outstanding-finance checks. Confirm acceptance before paying a non-refundable deposit; see used-vehicle checks.

Can a new operator apply?

Experience, confirmed work, contribution, credit and the full operating cash plan need assessment. An O-licence application does not itself make a company financeable.

Will funding meet licence financial-standing requirements?

Do not rely on that assumption. Operator licensing and finance assessment are separate; confirm the resources and evidence for your licence position.

What happens on early settlement?

Request a current settlement figure and compare fees, remaining instalments and any final payment. Do not assume interest or charges reduce in a particular way.
