Used Commercial Vehicle Finance
Used commercial vehicle finance assesses whether the vehicle remains suitable security for the proposed term as well as whether repayments are affordable.
NBS Finance is a broker and introducer, not a lender. An enquiry does not guarantee an offer.
Check the seller and asset before committing
- Identify the exact vehicle: registration/VIN, age, mileage or hours, specification, intended business use, seller and price with the actual VAT basis.
- Check title and finance: establish who owns it, whether outstanding finance needs settlement and how the provider will verify title and payment.
- Assess working life: supply service and inspection records, condition and valuation context. Budget tyres, repairs, downtime and insurance separately.
- Confirm transaction acceptance: private sellers, auction purchases, imports and related-party sales may need extra checks or be outside a provider’s appetite.
- Align money and delivery: confirm deposit, VAT, fees, payout conditions, delivery and first repayment before paying a non-refundable sum.
Hypothetical cash components: a £40,000 purchase price with an assumed £8,000 contribution leaves £32,000 of price before finance charges and any VAT. Add an initial repair/maintenance budget and operating costs to upfront cash. These amounts are invented, not required deposits or a quote. An older asset may support a different term, so compare the total cost and useful life rather than stretching the term to lower repayments.
Compare HGV buying decisions, van finance and HP versus lease. Releasing value from a vehicle already owned is a separate refinance question.
Still searching for a used van?
If the vehicle requirement is a van, tell the sourcing team whether you would consider used or new alternatives. Selected used requirements depend on the team confirming suitable availability; funding checks remain separate.
Quick answer
When this may be worth discussing
Replacing a vehicle without paying the full price upfront
Older or higher-mileage assets supported by strong evidence
Provider assessment
Information that helps produce a useful answer
Providers set their own rates, charges, fees, security and terms. Clear evidence helps distinguish a viable route from an unsuitable application.
- Age, mileage, service and inspection history
- Independent value and seller details
- Expected remaining working life
NBS Finance is a broker and introducer, not a lender. NBS does not charge the client a separate broker fee. Providers set costs and terms and may carry out business or director credit checks; ask which searches will be made before a full application. An enquiry does not guarantee an offer.
Used-vehicle questions
Can I buy at auction or privately?
Provider acceptance and title/seller evidence vary. Check before bidding or paying a non-refundable deposit; an auction deadline does not guarantee finance completion.
Is there a universal age or mileage limit?
No universal NBS rule is stated. Give the exact vehicle, condition and use so actual provider appetite and remaining life can be assessed.
Does finance cover repairs and VAT?
Do not assume so. Separate purchase price, VAT basis, repairs and upfront fees, and confirm which items the provider accepts.
What if it already has finance?
Obtain an up-to-date settlement figure and agree the title-release and payment route. Market value is not the same as unencumbered equity.
